ECD wrestles with BIGGEST SPOT OF THE YEAR!
Flying Sumo Wrestlers! Building a plane out of Sumos might seem a superhuman task, but ECD guided the vehicle safely out the door with precision based planning.
The key to this complex VFX challenge was pre-visualizing the job. By assembling 3D scenes before the shoot, ECD was able to come to the table with valuable information such as camera angles, people count and lens approximation. Once on set visual effects supervisor David Mosqueda oversaw co-ordination of the many passes of a shot needed to later cement the illusions in post. In addition to Sumo replication, full cg environments were created using photogrammetry and matte paintings.
Emerald city also graded the spot- a safe grade was provided from the telecine making sure there was enough lattitude to push the image later in post. It was a very challenging grade as footage was shot over 3 days and the weather ranged from overcast to the glorious australian sunshine. .
