Japanese maple bonsai air layered 2

This tree was one of two branches that were air layered from an older garden grown, Japanese maple in 1995. Once the layers were rooted and cut from the parent tree. Their roots were carefully arranged over stones, wrapped to the stones with raffia and planted in a deep containers. Over several years the soil was slowly removed from the top down, to reveal the roots. This maple was repotted into successively shallower containers, and finally into the container pictured.
