Wanpaku sumo opens to girls for first time

Wanpaku Sumo has been held for boys in grades four through six over the past 35 years. On Sunday, the tournament was opened to girls for the first time in its history. The Japan Times followed Ria Ishibashi, a 10-year-old Nagasaki Prefectural representative, who was competing for the grade-five national title.
